Section 5 - Suggested Procedures

  1. Treatment regimes should comply with label directions unless otherwise prescribed by a licensed veterinarian.

  2. Extra-label drug use should be kept to a minimum and only used when prescribed by a licensed veterinarian with a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. (Section 9)

  3. All animals treated with medications administered extra label should be properly identified and shall comply with prescribed withdrawal times or be subjected to an appropriate test prior to slaughter.

  4. All animals being individually treated should be identified by a permanent tag which has reference to date of treatment.  Nursing calves need not be individually identified, the withdrawal time can or will be applied to the whole group.

  5. All animals treated will be recorded individually stating drugs administered, dosage used,  and earliest date cattle can be sold and still observe withdrawal times.

  6. All treated animals scheduled for slaughter should be checked by facility personnel to assure that those animals have met label or prescription withdrawal times of medications administered.
