Section 5 - Implants

Implants can provide an economic advantage in the production of safe and wholesome beef. Beef from implanted cattle has proven to be leaner with only minute differences in hormone concentration.  Nevertheless, consumer concerns remain high with regard to use of hormones in beef cattle.  Perceptions such as misplaced implants and implant particles in ground beef continue to plague the industry.  Implant administration must follow label directions.  Proper implanting can also reward high economic returns.  This includes proper sanitation and the use of an antiseptic on the needle between every use.  This results in lower occurrence of abscesses in the ear and allows for proper utilization of the implant.  Consult your sales representative for proper placement of each implant.  There is no longer a withdrawal period for any of the implants approved by FDA.
