FEEDSTUFFS
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In maintaining an effective
BQA/CMP program in feedyards, it is desirable to monitor
feedstuffs entering your facility. At a minimum look at
every load of feed before unloading to confirm identity of
product and look for abnormalities. Be sure that the load
is normal relative to the following:
Color
Temperature
Odor
Moisture
Foreign matter
Results of these physical
inspections may provide a great deal of information
regarding prior treatment, especially where pesticides or
other chemicals are concerned. Favorable results usually
indicate the feed was handled properly prior to shipment
and, normally, should not contain any residue. However,
this is not always the case. Therefore, a specific sampling
and testing procedure is necessary.
