Dustin Oedekoven is the BQA/CMP coordinator
and a veterinary supervisor for the South Dakota Animal Industry Board in Pierre. He is originally from a ranch in Western South Dakota. Oedekoven said he hopes to raise awareness of the BQA/CMP program among people involved in the beef industry, from producers to consumers.

In his position as coordinator, Oedekoven will coordinate trainings and verify accreditation of those who are involved in the program. He will also be the liaison between the veterinarians who verify BQA/CMP certification and the South Dakota Cattlemen's Association, which administers the program. The goal of BQA/CMP is to ensure that cattle born or fed in South Dakota are maintained in a proper manner that will result in a nutritious, safe beef product for the consuming public. Voluntary participation in the program will send a positive signal to the consuming public that South Dakota beef producers are concerned about the wholesomeness of the beef they produce. "Right now the main benefit of participating in the program is increasing the quality of South Dakota beef. Eventually we hope to use this program to create a recognized symbol of quality for South Dakota beef and help raise the marketability while providing a safe and wholesome product for the consumer," Oedekoven said.
